On Saturday April 9, 2010 the American Hellenic Council of California ( AHC ), a political advocacy non-profit organization which promotes Greek-American interests, will host its 36 th Annual Honors Dinner Dance at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.

Each year, AHC celebrates the achievements of dedicated political and community leaders who have made major contributions to Hellenic causes. This year, with award-winning actor John Aniston as the event’s MC , the Council will recognize the accomplishments of four honorees – Chancellor. Linda Katehi, Mr. Van Vlahakis, Professor Georgios Anagnostopoulos, and Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL).

 

Dr. Linda Katehi, who is the Chancellor of UC Davis, will be recognized with the Aristeio Award for in Academics for 

her outstanding contributions to the world of science, engineering and education. CEO of Earth Friendly Products , Mr. Van Vlahakis will be the recipient of the Aristeio Award in Business  for envisioning and establishing one the leading manufacturer in “green cleaning products” by applying sustainable business practices.

 

This year,  the Theodore Saloutos Award for contributions to the Hellenic Community will be presented to Professor Georgios Anagnostopoulos for being instrumental in establishing three Chairs for Greek studies at UC San Diego.

Finally, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen , who is the Chairman of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, will be presented with the Pericles Award for commitment to issues of principle and justice in the geographic area of Greece and Cyprus and she will be acknowledged for her support of the Hellenic community.

 

In addition to these distinguished individuals, many other dignitaries and high-profile community members are expected to be in attendance, including Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), Consul General of Greece Ms. Elisavet Fotiadou, Consul

General of Cyprus Mr. Andreas Kyprianides, FCIC Commissioner Byron Georgiou who is a candidate for US Senate in Nevada, Democratic candidate for the 36 th CA Congressional District Marcy Winograd , Father John Bakas , AHC Co-Founder and Board Member Aris Anagnos as well as representatives of the Armenian National Committee and the American Jewish Committee.

 

 

The reception will begin at 6:00 PM featuring exhibited art by award-winning artists Zafiris , Tina Psoinos and

Avra Alexiades . The dinner and awards program will begin at 7:00 PM . It will be followed by live music by Margarita and a guest appearance by Ariana Savalas .
