Turkey and the United States reaffirmed the long-term strategic partnership between the two countries in a meeting between top officials on Sunday, Turkish president’s office said in a statement.
Turkey’s Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin and U.S. National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster held a meeting on Sunday in Istanbul.

In the statement from Turkish Presidency, Turkish president’s office said:
During the meeting, Turkey and the United States reaffirmed the long-term strategic partnership and discussed the two countries’ priorities and sensitivities. The two allies exchanged views on regional developments and mutual strategic challenges. The issues which are negatively affecting the bilateral relations and ways to develop a joint fight against all kinds of terrorism were discussed in detail.
Turkey-U.S. relations have been strained recently following U.S. support and arming of Syrian Kurdish militia against the Islamic State threat. Ankara considers Kurdish militia as a terrorist organisation and accuses Washington of risking its border security. Turkey launched its own operation in one of Syrian Kurdish enclaves in northern Syria, Afrin.
